Albertsons Cos. has introduced Albertsons for U+, an annual subscription program priced at $39 per year that adds unlimited same-day grocery delivery and pickup to the company’s free for U loyalty program.
For U+ members receive:
- unlimited free same-day delivery on orders over $30;
- a $2 upgrade to Flash delivery with groceries arriving in as soon as 30 minutes (a $9.95 per-order value);
- free Flash pickup in as soon as 30 minutes (a $3.95 value); and
- loyalty points that don’t expire.
Members also keep the benefits of the free for U program, whose most engaged members save $25 weekly on average through personalized deals, digital coupons, rewards, a birthday treat and a free monthly item, according to the Boise, Idaho-based company.
Flash service is available in select areas with operating hours varying by store, a maximum basket of up to 35 items per purchase depending on location, and select eligible items.
The subscription is available at Albertsons Cos. stores nationwide, including the Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Jewel-Osco, Acme and Shaw’s banners.
The launch sharpens the subscription battle among the largest grocery retailers: at $39 annually, for U+ comes in well under Walmart+ at $98 per year and the new $120 Walmart+ and Sam’s Club bundle, as grocers compete to lock in delivery-first households with membership economics.
