The Shelby Report has covered the food and grocery industry since 1967. We publish five monthly regional print editions (Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, West and Northeast), national coverage, daily e-newsletters and breaking news on theshelbyreport.com. This page explains what we cover, who we write for and how we report.
Who we write for
Our readers are grocery retailers, wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers and the executives who lead them. We report the news they need to run their businesses: store openings and closings, leadership changes, mergers and acquisitions, category trends, market share data, technology, supply chain and industry events.
How we report
- We report from the market. Our editors and writers interview retailers, suppliers and association leaders, visit stores and attend industry events across the regions we cover.
- We verify before we publish. Facts, names, titles, figures and locations are checked against primary sources such as the company involved, public filings, association data or on-the-record interviews.
- We attribute. When information comes from a company announcement, press release, association or other publication, we say so in the story.
- We separate news from opinion. Columns, guest perspectives and expert commentary are labeled as such and carry the author’s name and title.
- We update stories when facts change and note significant updates in the story.
Bylines and staff
News stories carry the name of the Shelby Report staff member who wrote or edited them. Author pages list each writer’s role and recent work. Our full team is listed on the Shelby Team page.
Editorial independence
Our editorial staff decides what we cover and how. Advertisers and sponsors do not review or approve news coverage before publication. Paid and advertiser-supplied content is clearly labeled; see our Ethics and Advertising Policy.
