Foundation and leadership
The National Grocers Association is the national trade association dedicated to independent, community-focused grocers, along with the wholesalers and suppliers that serve them. Based in Washington, D.C., NGA works on advocacy, education, events and services for the independent grocery industry.
The Shelby Report and NGA

What is the National Grocers Association?
The National Grocers Association (NGA) is the national trade association dedicated to independent, community-focused grocers. It represents independent retailers and wholesalers, plus the suppliers that serve them, and is based in Washington, D.C.
Who can join NGA?
Any privately held, independent or family-owned grocery retailer or ESOP can join as a retail member. Wholesalers, including retailer-owned cooperatives, and the suppliers and associations that serve independent grocers can join too. Learn about NGA membership.
What does NGA advocate for?
NGA’s priorities include stronger antitrust enforcement so independents can compete on equal terms, food and nutrition programs such as SNAP and WIC, and small-business issues like workforce and labor policy. Each year it brings grocers to Washington for the Fly-In for Fair Competition.
When is the next NGA Show?
The 2027 NGA Show is Jan. 31-Feb. 2, 2027, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It is the industry’s annual show for independent grocers, with education sessions and an expo floor. See the NGA Show site.
