General Mills and SC Johnson’s Ziploc brand have introduced Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal, billed as the first resealable bag inside a traditional cereal box. The innovation launched Oct. 27 exclusively on Walmart.com for Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios, with a rollout to retailers nationwide in the coming months.

The companies say the partnership answers hundreds of thousands of consumer requests, comments and reactions annually. The resealable bag opens only partially across the top to create a pour spout, then seals closed inside the box. According to a December 2025 Suzy survey cited by the companies, 90 percent of cereal lovers already take extra steps beyond closing the box to preserve freshness, from folding and clipping the bag to transferring cereal to another container.

cereal box“General Mills has received letters, emails and DMs asking for an easier way to reseal a cereal box, and we decided it was time to partner with the ultimate freshness brand: Ziploc,” said Emilie Knox, VP and business unit director for Cheerios at General Mills. “Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal takes a small, everyday cereal frustration and finally gives consumers the simple solution they’ve been asking for.”

“Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal is an exciting new expression of what Ziploc brand can do, bringing our resealable freshness expertise directly into the Cheerios package and Ziploc brand into the pantry in an entirely new way,” a Ziploc brand spokesperson said.

The companies note the engineering challenge of working at Cheerios’ scale, with nearly one box produced every second. The new product is being made exclusively in Buffalo, New York, where Cheerios was first produced in 1941; Ziploc’s zipper technology dates to 1968.

Cheerios is the top cereal brand by dollar sales, per Nielsen data cited by the companies. General Mills, whose brands include Nature Valley, Pillsbury and Betty Crocker, generated fiscal 2026 net sales of $18 billion; Ziploc parent SC Johnson, based in Racine, Wisconsin, was founded in 1886.
