Creative branding in the produce department at the new San Antonio store

H-E-B has opened its newest store at the intersection of Interstate 10 East and Loop 1604, serving communities on San Antonio’s far East Side along with Converse, Seguin, La Vernia and other outlying areas beyond the city’s growing eastern edge.

Spanning more than 125,000 square feet, the store features a True Texas BBQ restaurant with indoor seating and drive-thru, a pharmacy with drive-thru service, more than 30 curbside pickup parking spaces and home delivery, including H-E-B Now one-hour delivery for $9.95. The store is open daily, 6 a.m.-11 p.m.

Store general manager Will Tate grew up in the area. “Our partners and I want to ensure that this store meets the needs of this growing community,” Tate said. “Many of us are from this area, and it is important to us that our customers feel taken care of when they walk through our front doors.”

Store highlights include a bakery with artisan breads and tortillas made in store daily; Sushiya sushi and an Asian grill; Meal Simple chef-inspired prepared meals; a meat market with Prime, natural and organic meats plus Wagyu; sustainably sourced seafood; a Cooking Connection with live demonstrations; an extensive craft beer and wine selection with a sampling station; the Healthy Living, Blooms floral, pet and Texas Backyard garden departments; and a Household Essentials department featuring the company’s Texas Tough brand.

The store’s design reflects the surrounding community, incorporating Texas limestone, warm wood-tone metal paneling and numerous windows for natural light, along with energy-efficient features including CO2 refrigeration units and LED lighting. A convenience store with a 10-pump fuel station and car wash is under construction along the Loop 1604 frontage road, expected to open in summer 2027.

Through its Spirit of Giving philosophy, H-E-B donated $40,000 to mark the opening, gifting $10,000 each to the education foundations of the Judson, East Central, Marion and Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City school districts.

San Antonio-based H-E-B, with sales of more than $50 billion, operates 460 stores in Texas and Mexico and also runs the Joe V’s Smart Shop, Central Market and Mi Tienda formats, along with Favor Delivery.
