Brookshire Brothers store

Brookshire Brothers will open its newest store in its hometown of Lufkin, Texas, at 6 a.m. on Nov. 11, bringing an expanded grocery experience and an outdoor entertainment venue to the community the employee-owned company has called home for more than a century. The 70,000-square-foot store at 2110 S. First St. will create 150 new jobs.

“It’s so much more than just a grocery store. We’re bringing everything our customers know and love about Brookshire Brothers to this new location while upping the ante with expanded services like our beer, wine and coffee bar and the Pineywoods Pavilion,” said Melissa Crager, public relations and corporate responsibility manager. “This store is like nothing Lufkin has ever seen before, but it’s everything Lufkin deserves.”

Specialty departments and fresh offerings

The store features Brookshire Brothers’ signature departments, including an in-store pharmacy with a drive-thru, full-service bakery, expanded hot deli, fresh meat market and floral department.

Brookshire Brothers Brews pairs a drive-thru coffee shop, serving specialty drinks, cold brew, craft lemonade and ice cream floats, with a 16-tap draft bar of rotating craft beers, a dedicated keg room and happy hour specials Monday through Thursday from 4-7 p.m. The 3,200-square-foot beer and wine department adds a sampling bar, a rotating craft section and an on-site wine steward.

The meat market offers custom cuts plus dry-aged ribeyes and strip steaks, beef jerky smoked in house, a fresh seafood service counter and chef-ready items such as stuffed jalapeños and bacon-wrapped chicken thighs. The store also introduces a fresh-squeezed juice program alongside the company’s fresh-cut fruit program, and an in-store nut grinder lets customers make their own peanut butter.

The pharmacy offers immunizations with no appointment necessary, free blood pressure machines and free local prescription delivery, including to the Hudson area. Brookshire Brothers Anywhere provides grocery delivery and curbside pickup.

Pineywoods Pavilion

The store introduces the Pineywoods Pavilion, an outdoor event venue with capacity for up to 1,000 people, featuring a 20-foot television screen, playground, dance floor and premium sound system. The venue will host outdoor movie nights, live music and family entertainment throughout the year.

“This will be Lufkin’s new favorite place to hang out with friends and family,” Crager said.

Grand opening celebration

While the store opens Nov. 11, a grand opening celebration follows Dec. 9 with a ribbon-cutting in partnership with the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce, free samples and giveaways. A Family Fun Day at the Pineywoods Pavilion on Dec. 12 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. will offer face painting, pictures with Santa and a caricature artist.

“Our new Lufkin store marks a significant milestone in our longstanding commitment to our hometown. We’re proud to create 150 new jobs and make a substantial financial investment in the local economy,” said John Alston, president and CEO. “We started here. We’re growing here. And we’re proud to call Lufkin home.”

Founded in 1921, 100 percent employee-owned Brookshire Brothers operates nearly 120 locations from the Texas Hill Country to Lake Charles, Louisiana, in formats spanning traditional grocery and pharmacy, fuel operations, coffee shops and event venues.
