Bauducco, which describes itself as the world’s largest panettone producer, has partnered with Hormel Foods’ Skippy brand to debut Skippy Peanut Butter Chocottone, bringing the peanut butter and chocolate pairing to the Italian-style sweet holiday loaf.

The product layers creamy peanut butter with the chocolate crumb of Bauducco’s Chocottone. The launch marks the first chapter in an ongoing collaboration between the two brands, with more Skippy-inspired items in the works.

“This partnership with the Skippy brand invites American consumers to discover the Chocottone in a way that feels personal and delicious, combining two globally recognized brands into something fresh and special,” said Juliana Corá Bastos, marketing, trade marketing and e-commerce director for Bauducco’s international business unit. “And this is just the beginning of what we have planned together.”

Sam Hovick, brand manager for Skippy, added, “Peanut butter is the star of countless holiday baking traditions, and the Skippy brand is delighted to team up with another global icon.”

Pistachio prominence

According to international trade organization Rahmani Group, the Dubai Chocolate trend “encouraged food companies to develop more pistachio-flavored chocolates, desserts, ice creams, pastries and spreads, extending demand beyond Dubai Chocolate itself.”

Bauducco is among those companies, adding a Pistachio Chocottone alongside the new Skippy variety. Both items became available in October at major U.S. food and grocery retailers, well ahead of the traditional holiday rush.

Founded in Brazil in 1952 by an Italian immigrant, Bauducco exports to more than 50 countries and has done business in the U.S. for more than 20 years. The company says it holds an 86 percent value share of the U.S. panettone category. Skippy, founded in 1933, was acquired by Austin, Minnesota-based Hormel Foods in 2013.
