Publix opened its first store in Owensboro, Kentucky, on Oct. 3, a 50,325-square-foot supermarket at Gateway Commons at 3370 Hayden Rd.
The opening extends the Lakeland, Florida-based retailer’s push into Kentucky, where it opened its first store in Louisville in January 2024 and has continued adding locations, including its second Northern Kentucky store in Cold Spring in June. According to the grocer’s website, there are nine locations in Kentucky open.
Owensboro is in northwestern Kentucky, on the banks of the Ohio River, across from the Indiana border.
“We are excited to open our first location in Owensboro,” said Jared Glover, media relations manager. “Our associates look forward to providing premier service and helping customers enjoy an exceptional shopping experience from the moment they walk through our doors.”
The store’s deli features a full-service counter with a variety of meats and cheeses, an international selection of olives, hummus and more than 150 artisan cheeses. The produce department carries organic and conventionally grown fruits and vegetables, including locally grown options, alongside a floral department with seasonal bouquets.
The bakery offers fresh breads, rolls, cakes, cookies, pies and wedding cakes crafted by bakers and cake decorators, while the meat department features custom cuts, including Publix’s private label all-natural and organic GreenWise chicken, plus ready-to-cook items prepared fresh daily. The seafood department carries fresh, never-frozen whole fish and fillets, wild and farm-raised fish and shellfish, with sushi chefs creating hand-rolled selections daily.
The location also includes a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru for prescription pickup, an adjacent Publix Liquors store offering beer, wine and spirits, and Publix Delivery powered by Instacart.
Publix operates stores in nine states: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky and Mississippi.
