Market 32 celebrated the grand opening of its newest store, at 3333 Berlin Turnpike in Newington, Connecticut, with $4,000 in donations to two local nonprofits, presenting ceremonial checks of $2,000 each to the Newington Food Bank and Newington Little League.
The donations represent 5 percent of total sales from the store’s grand opening block party held Aug. 1, when customers also received 5 percent off their grocery purchases, a giving mechanism that tied the store’s first-day volume directly to its community investment.
“The Newington community has supported us for years, and we’re proud to celebrate this exciting milestone by giving back,” said Blaine Bringhurst, president of Market 32 and Price Chopper. “As we continue investing in our stores, we’re equally committed to investing in the communities they serve. Through Market 32 Cares, we’re honored to support organizations like Newington Food Bank and Newington Little League that help strengthen our community every day.”

The Newington Food Bank provides groceries and basic support to local residents experiencing food insecurity, while Newington Little League offers recreational and competitive baseball and softball for children ages 4 to 16.
The Berlin Turnpike store has quickly become a programming flagship for the Schenectady, New York-based grocer in Connecticut; it was one of three locations chainwide to host a Tailgate Club kickoff celebration Sept. 12, and the opening lands amid a busy stretch that has included the company’s new value campaign cutting prices on more than a thousand staples.
Founded by the Golub family in 1932, Market 32 and Price Chopper operate 128 supermarkets with 15,500 teammates in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
