Giant Food celebrated the grand reopening of its newly remodeled store at 3530 Sugarloaf Parkway in Frederick, Maryland, on Aug. 14, pairing the event with the launch of its annual Pediatric Cancer Campaign and a $5,000 donation to The Children’s Cancer Foundation Inc.

The grand reopening showcases modernized amenities, including an expanded seafood department, a broader selection of natural and organic food items, a Ledo Pizza Corner Shop, a full-service sushi bar with an in-store chef and a variety of prepared food offerings.

“Since 2007, Store 349 has built lasting relationships throughout the community, thanks to the dedication of our associates,” said Jared Robinson, store manager. “They are passionate about supporting one another, take pride in their work, and bring a tremendous work ethic to the store every day.”

Pediatric Cancer Campaign underway

During the ceremony, Giant Food officially kicked off its annual Pediatric Cancer Campaign, which runs Aug. 14-Oct. 15. Customers can participate by purchasing a $5 coupon book with more than $120 in savings or by rounding up their total at the register. Since 2005, the company has raised more than $37 million for the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.

“The Children’s Cancer Foundation Inc. is humbled by the continued and loyal support of Giant Food,” said Tasha Museles, CCF president. “Our 40-plus year partnership means everything. Every donation means there will be advances in the treatment and cures available to the youngest cancer patients. Giant Food’s support throughout the year ensures that, together, we will find cures for pediatric cancer.”

Customers at the reopened store sampled Giant’s private brand products and products from partners including Boar’s Head and Celsius. They also received a free reusable bag at checkout.

Since opening its first location in Washington, D.C., in 1936, Giant has designated four main giving pillars addressing local food insecurity, military support, pediatric cancer research and social equality. Headquartered in Landover, Maryland, Giant operates 162 supermarkets and 152 full-service pharmacies in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia with approximately 20,000 associates.
