Hannaford Supermarkets has added about 12,000 square feet to its store in Gray, Maine. According to the July 7 announcement, the expansion added new services, features and convenience for customers.
Local news reports said the expansion doubled the size of the store, which is located at 130 Shaker Rd.
More perishables, more conveniences
Expanded perishable departments – including produce, meat and seafood – were part of the project, which also yielded additional variety in grab-and-go meals in the deli and more dairy and frozen foods.
Outside of product selection, new features include self-checkout registers and a private consultation room for immunizations at the in-store pharmacy.
Site improvements included a parking lot expansion and a second entrance to the store.
“At Hannaford, we’re deeply committed to serving our customers and communities, and the expansion of our Gray store reflects that commitment,” said Todd Bullen, VP of retail operations for Hannaford, which is based in Scarborough, Maine.
“Customers can now enjoy an even better shopping experience with expanded fresh departments, added convenience and the same dependable quality and value they can trust from Hannaford. We’re grateful for our customers’ loyalty and we’re excited to welcome them to the newly expanded store.”
The Gray store also offers Hannaford To Go so that shoppers can order groceries online for pickup or delivery in as little as three hours. Hannaford To Go customers can shop from recent online and in-store purchases, redeem digital coupons and add items to their cart directly from the digital weekly flyer, the grocer said.
Community care
In line with Hannaford’s sustainability commitment, the remodel features a new carbon dioxide refrigeration system and electric cooking equipment.
To support the greater Gray community, the store donated a total of $15,000 to local nonprofits, including the Gray Community Food Pantry.
Hannaford, a banner of Ahold Delhaize, was founded in 1883, and operates more than 180 stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and New York. It employs more than 26,000 associates. The company also supports its communities through local partnerships, selling more than 6,000 products from 800 area makers and farmers.
