Hannaford Supermarkets has brought back its in-store farm stands just in time for peak fall harvest season, partnering with local farms and growers to offer seasonal produce including potatoes, carrots, squash, corn and apples.
The farm stands, a seasonal fixture at Hannaford stores, are one element of the Scarborough, Maine-based grocer’s local sourcing program. Hannaford partners with more than 125 Northeast farms, helping growers reach more customers while offering shoppers a diverse selection of seasonal items.
“Supporting local farmers and growers is deeply important to Hannaford because they strengthen our regional food system, sustain local economies and help communities thrive,” said Norm Daigle, VP of category management at Hannaford. “By building lasting partnerships with farms across the Northeast, we can help growers expand their reach while connecting our customers with the fresh, seasonal foods they value.”
Longtime farm partners
Family-owned growers such as Leary Farm in Saco, Maine, and Brookdale Fruit Farm in Hollis, New Hampshire, are among Hannaford’s longtime partners. Leary Farm, family-owned and operated since 1943, supplies the grocer with sweet corn and other seasonal vegetables.
“Our partnership with Hannaford has given us a great opportunity to connect with local customers who care about where their food comes from,” said Kevin Leary. “It’s rewarding to see the crops we work so hard to grow end up on the tables of our neighbors.”
Brookdale Fruit Farm has been a fixture in southern New Hampshire agriculture for more than eight decades, growing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
“Partnerships like this help local farms stay connected to the communities they serve,” said Zoe Stapp, inventory manager at Brookdale Fruit Farm. “It’s great to see our produce reach customers close to home while working together to help keep local agriculture thriving.”
Hannaford’s local roots trace to 1883, when the Hannaford brothers began selling fresh, locally grown produce from a cart along the Portland, Maine, waterfront. Today the grocer operates 188 stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont, employing nearly 30,000 associates. In 2025, Hannaford donated nearly 29 million pounds of food to hunger relief organizations.
