Schnuck Markets announced that the Schnucks Fresh store at 3605 North Newton St. in Jasper, Indiana, will permanently close May 24.

The 18,000-square-foot store opened in 2021. All 29 employees will have the choice of transferring to another Schnucks store, including those around Evansville, Indiana, or a severance package.

For those who transfer, Schnucks said it will try to place them in comparable jobs at the same rate of pay and working an equivalent number of hours per week.

Todd Schnuck, Schnucks chairman and CEO, said the closure was a difficult decision driven by the store’s performance.

“Our teammates at our Jasper location have demonstrated exceptional dedication in service to their customers and their community,” he said. “Unfortunately, the store simply has not generated the business it needs to stay open.”
