Winn-Dixie took home three first-place blue ribbons during the American Pie Council National Pie Championship on April 8-9 in Orlando, Florida.
The retailer’s winning entries spanned classic and specialty categories, including the 8-inch caramel apple pie, 8-inch caramel chocolate pecan pie and 11-inch apple lattice pie.
The 8-inch caramel apple pie garnered its sixth blue ribbon from the council since 2017.
The performance at the national competition highlights the grocer’s “Own Brand” strategy, which focuses on providing high-quality private label products that compete with national brands on taste and value.
The victories come ahead of National Apple Pie Day on May 13. Two of the three top honors went to apple-based recipes, which remain a staple of the grocer’s dessert lineup.
“Winn-Dixie continues to serve up a winning streak – building on a strong track record at the competition and showcasing its Own Brand momentum of delivering high-quality, great-tasting products at an exceptional value,” the company stated.
The 11-inch apple lattice pie is scheduled for a seasonal return during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Customers can find caramel apple pie and caramel chocolate pecan pie in-store, where they are available by request.
The American Pie Council competition is considered a premier event for the commercial baking industry, judging entries on appearance, crust consistency and flavor profile.
“From craveable classics to elevated flavor combinations, Winn-Dixie’s pies continue to resonate with both judges and shoppers alike,” the retailer said.
