Energy awareness
Big Y was recognized for its ongoing work to improve energy performance and reduce energy use throughout its operations, implementing efficiency and sustainability initiatives for more than 20 years through a multi-tiered approach tailored to individual locations, supported by collaboration among Big Y teams and partnerships with the Sponsors of Mass Save and National Grid.
“Receiving the Mass Save Impact Award is a meaningful recognition of Big Y’s long-standing commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship,” said Matt D’Amour, VP of real estate and development at Big Y.
“As a family-owned company celebrating 90 years, we’ve always believed that doing the right thing for our communities includes being mindful of our environmental impact. Sustainability has always been part of how we do business, and over the past 20 years, that commitment has grown even stronger,” D’Amour added.
Springfield, Massachusetts-based Big Y, founded in 1936 by brothers Paul and Gerald D’Amour, operates supermarkets in Massachusetts and Connecticut along with Table & Vine fine wine, beer and liquor and Big Y Express fuel and convenience locations, with more than 10,000 employees. The chain takes its name from an intersection in Chicopee, Massachusetts, where two roads converge to form a “Y.”
