Walmart and SCAN Health Plan have launched two co-branded Medicare Advantage plans, SCAN Walmart Health Advantage (HMO) and SCAN Walmart Medicare Complete Chronic Special Needs Plan, available Jan. 1, 2027, to eligible beneficiaries in six Texas counties and three Arizona counties. The companies said the plans will be available to more than 2 million Medicare enrollees.

The companies had first announced their plans to launch the new options in September. The plans are available in Texas’ Bexar, Chambers, Fort Bend, Harris, Liberty and Montgomery counties and Arizona’s Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties. Beneficiaries can enroll during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, Oct. 15-Dec. 7.

Both plans carry FlexEssentials allowances – up to $780 annually on the HMO and $2,400 on the chronic-conditions plan – that members can spend on eligible healthy foods and over-the-counter items from Walmart’s assortment, alongside the retailer’s pharmacy and vision services.

“Walmart plays an important role in the everyday lives of many older adults, whether they’re shopping for groceries, filling prescriptions or looking for products that support their health and wellness,” said Zack Myers, national general manager of SCAN Health Plan. “Together, we’re offering Medicare Advantage plans that combine strong benefits, personalized support and innovative tools.”

AI-powered platform provides nutrition info

The plans also feature Walmart’s Everyday Health Signals, an AI-powered platform that provides nutrition insights from everyday shopping behaviors for members who opt in, delivering tailored food recommendations based on health goals, preferences and shopping habits.

“Walmart Everyday Health Signals helps enrolled members understand the health impact of these decisions and offers personalized, goal-oriented guidance for healthier eating,” said Dr. Pravene Nath, group director for consumer health and data solutions at Walmart U.S. “Walmart and SCAN are creating a convenient and connected experience that helps members get more value from their coverage.”
