SCAN Health Plan and Walmart are collaborating on a co-branded Medicare Advantage plan that would launch in two states and be available to more than 2 million Medicare enrollees.
The two launch states were not named in the release, but Long Beach, California-based SCAN Health Plan – SCAN stands for Senior Care Action Network – is a nonprofit Medicare Advantage plan serving nearly 460,000 members in 33 counties in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, New Mexico and Washington.
As part of the collaboration, SCAN and Walmart will connect the co-branded Medicare Advantage offering more closely with Walmart’s health and wellness products and services and its technology capabilities. Offerings may include – pending regulatory review and approval – pharmacy and vision services, food and over-the-counter (OTC) benefits.
“Together, the organizations aim to create a more connected experience that helps older adults navigate their health and wellness needs both inside and outside the doctor’s office,” according to the Sept. 16 press release announcing the plan.
Medicare’s annual enrollment period opens Oct. 15.
“At SCAN, we believe healthcare is better when it is personalized to the individual, and when members choose to opt in, data can help us deliver a more relevant experience tailored to their needs,” said Zack Myers, national general manager of SCAN Health Plan. “By combining Walmart’s technology capabilities and consumer retail expertise with SCAN’s Medicare product experience, we have an opportunity to develop products that translate those insights into meaningful support that helps members make more informed choices about their health and well-being.”

Shopping data meets plan design
Walmart brings to the collaboration Everyday Health Signals, its AI-powered platform supporting personalized nutrition and wellness experiences, which debuted last year with Medicare Advantage benefits tools that let members identify plan-eligible products while shopping and track benefits spending. Under the SCAN plan, participating members who opt in can share a wellness goal and receive tailored nutrition information and food recommendations informed by their goals and shopping preferences, with the partners positioning the capability as part of broader coaching and wellness support.
“Because customers regularly turn to Walmart for groceries and other everyday essentials, we have an opportunity for those who choose to participate, to use insights from their shopping experiences to make nutrition guidance more relevant and actionable,” said Pravene Nath, M.D., group director for consumer health and data solutions at Walmart U.S. “Combined with Walmart’s breadth across food, pharmacy, vision and other health and wellness services, and SCAN’s deep Medicare expertise, we can create a more connected experience that helps older adults take action on their health goals as part of their everyday routines.”
The collaboration pairs SCAN’s nearly five decades serving older adults with Walmart’s Medicare experience, including more than a decade of in-store insurance support and Walmart Insurance Services, its licensed insurance agency launched in 2020.
Bentonville, Arkansas-based Walmart operates more than 10,900 stores and e-commerce sites in 19 countries, with fiscal 2026 revenue of $713 billion.
