Tops Friendly Markets has completed a $2.2 million remodel of its store at 2265 Downer St. in Baldwinsville, New York, and will celebrate the grand reopening with a ceremonial ribbon cutting Sept. 15 at 10 a.m., welcoming customers, community members and local officials to tour the renovated store. Tops also will provide local nonprofits with $1,000 in gift cards to support their causes.
The project is part of the Williamsville, New York-based grocer’s ongoing capital improvement plan, which has invested more than $110 million throughout its three-state footprint to modernize stores. The program’s recent projects include a $1 million Niagara Falls remodel completed in August and a pair of Tonawanda renovations earlier this year.
“This remodel reflects our continued commitment to our customers and the communities we serve,” said Ron Ferri, Tops president. “By reinvesting in another store in Baldwinsville, we’re delivering a more modern, convenient shopping experience while continuing to offer great value.”
Changes inside and out
The 50,000-square-foot-plus store received updated awnings, new building signage and fresh exterior paint, along with a parking lot and landscaping refresh. Inside, the renovation brought enhanced decor and interior paint, new LED lighting, a complete center store reset, an in-lobby bottle redemption center and fully renovated restrooms.
Department upgrades include:
- an expanded produce department with new cases and display fixtures;
- an enhanced deli and carry-out café featuring Marketplace Deli, Meals to Go and prepared sushi; and
- an expanded bakery with daily and specialty cakes.
New features comprise a Healthy Hydration and health and natural/organic offerings and a cheese shoppe and, according to Tops, an improved overall layout.
Services include Instacart pickup and delivery, DoorDash delivery, order-ahead meals and catering, the Flashfood app and a full-service pharmacy.
The refreshed fuel station features new Gilbarco pumps with PCI- and EMV-compliant touchscreen technology, a 3D barcode reader for Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, and nine-inch interactive screens highlighting savings opportunities. Customers can scan their BonusPlus card from the Tops app at the pump to redeem GasPoints savings.
Headquartered in Williamsville, Tops operates 152 grocery stores in New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont, including one franchise location, with more than 14,000 associates.
