Stop & Shop has celebrated the grand reopening of its newly remodeled South Boston store at 713 E. Broadway, marking the occasion with a weekend of giveaways, sampling and festivities that began Aug. 28, including free mini tote bags customized with Boston and Southie-themed patches.

The renovated store features more fresh produce offerings, upgraded refrigerated display cases and bright new lighting throughout, along with new plant-based and gluten-free sections.

Other additions include:

  • more organic produce items, including potatoes, onions and cabbage;
  • a broad new selection of Badia seasonings to meet residents’ preferences;
  • new grab-and-go cases for deli favorites; and
  • a community mural representing the city of Boston with a nod to Southie.

Practical upgrades

Additional upgrades address practical neighborhood concerns: more storefront windows at the entrance and exit to decrease wind and cold entering the store during Boston winters, plus new dual-use registers arriving this fall that allow more lanes to convert to self-scan as needed. A soup bar also is set to arrive this fall.

A mural in the produce department features a special nod to the store’s Southie location.

“This remodel is about more than updating a store. It’s about showing our Southie neighbors that we’ve listened,” said Store Manager Munish Kumar. “Our neighbors’ feedback helped shape improvements throughout the store, creating a more enjoyable and convenient shopping experience. We’re proud to be part of this community and excited to welcome customers into a refreshed space that feels inviting, reflects the character of the neighborhood and is something they can take pride in.”

To celebrate the reopening, Stop & Shop donated $2,000 to the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council, which supports the community through efforts including production of the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Transformation continues

The remodel continues the multi-year transformation strategy the Quincy, Massachusetts-based grocer announced in May 2024, which pairs store renovations with lower everyday prices — now implemented across its more than 350 stores — and a renewed focus on the in-store experience.

The South Boston store is open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m.-9 p.m., with online pickup available.
