Williamsville, New York-based Tops Friendly Markets has reopened its Tops in Education program for the school year, running Sept. 1 through May 31. Since the program began in 2012, it has donated more than $2 million to schools across the grocer’s operating area.
Customers register their Tops BonusPlus card online and select up to three K-12 schools from a list of participating schools. Those schools earn up to 5 percent in rewards on purchases of participating products.
Qualifying items include hundreds of products under the Tops, Full Circle, Crav’n, Paws Happy Life and Simply Done labels.
“The Tops in Education Program is a meaningful way for our customers to support the schools that are so important to their families and communities,” said Courtney Mailhot, manager of community relations for Tops Friendly Markets. “Every participating purchase adds up, and together, our customers and schools have created more than $2 million in support since the program began. We are proud to continue that tradition and help schools provide students with enriching opportunities throughout the year.”
Tops said last year that the program had reached more than 1,000 area schools, funding field trips, dances, classroom supplies and youth sports equipment.
Tops operates 152 grocery stores in New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont, including one franchise location, and employs more than 14,000 associates. Founded in Niagara Falls, New York, in 1962, the company is a subsidiary of Schenectady, New York-based Northeast Grocery, which also owns the Price Chopper and Market 32 banners.
