Barons Market recently opened its 10th store at 2800 Roosevelt St. in Carlsbad Village, the family-owned Southern California grocer’s first location in Carlsbad.
The 15,000-square-foot store carries organic, natural and specialty foods at everyday low prices.
“We are thrilled to be a part of Carlsbad Village,” said Rachel Shemirani, SVP of Barons Market. “We always look to be in tight-knit communities, which is why this neighborhood is a perfect fit for Barons Market. Since our opening, we’ve been receiving a fantastic response from our new neighbors. It’s been wonderful!”
For each new location, Barons Market works with interior designer Julie Dugas of Studio H2G. Dugas has designed all Barons Market stores, with each intended to reflect its neighborhood.
The Carlsbad store follows the format the company uses chainwide, which is designed for a 15-minute shopping trip. Grab-and-go options include a salad bar, hot soup bar, olive and antipasto bar, hot food bar and cookie bar, along with freshly made sandwiches and entrees. The store also has an outdoor patio where customers can eat.
Barons Market works with local farms on produce. At noon every Wednesday, its taste team meets to evaluate 80-120 products before selecting about five to bring to shelves.
The company contributes more than $300,000 a year to community organizations.
Founded in 1993 and based in San Diego, Barons Market operates 10 stores across Southern California.

Barons is way too expensive to be considered a neighborhood market. It also appears they’re more interested in wine than food. Good for people who drink wine. Very disappointed.
