Publix Super Markets is opening a new store Thursday, Aug. 13, at The Marketplace at Mills River in Mills River, North Carolina. The store, located at 70 Vance Hill Drive, is 50,325 square feet.

According to the developer of The Marketplace, Crossman & Company, the store is in a prime location in the center of Mills River, with strong traffic counts and within one mile of three schools. It is bordered by Pisgah National Forest, which offers more than 500,000 acres of camping, tubing, horseback riding and hiking/biking trails, drawing locals and visitors.
Store departments
The store features Publix’s signature departments, including a full-service deli counter offers a variety of meats and cheeses, an international selection of olives, hummus and more than 150 artisan cheeses from the U.S. and around the world.
The produce department carries organic and conventionally grown fruits and vegetables, including locally grown produce, while the floral department stocks seasonal bouquets. The scratch bakery offers cakes, cookies, pies, wedding cakes and desserts made by trained decorators, with breads and rolls baked fresh throughout the day.
The meat department features custom cuts, including Publix’s private label all-natural and organic GreenWise chicken, along with ready-to-cook items prepared fresh daily. The seafood department carries fresh seafood delivered throughout the week, including wild and farm-raised fish and a variety of shellfish, with sushi chefs creating hand-rolled selections daily.
A full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru for prescription pickup also stocks body care products and a selection of natural and conventional vitamins, minerals and supplements. The store offers Publix Delivery, powered by Instacart.
Lakeland, Florida-based Publix is the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the U.S., operating 1,432 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky. Its North Carolina store count is 63, according to the company website.
