Publix opened a new 41,744-square-foot store April 11 at 4628 Guess Road in Durham, North Carolina, part of its continued expansion in the state’s Research Triangle region.
The location features traditional departments, including a bakery, full-service deli and meat and seafood counters. The store also houses a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru and offers home delivery services powered by Instacart.
“We are thrilled to continue our growth across the Triangle with a new location in Durham,” said Jared Glover, media relations manager for Publix.
“Customers, both old and new, will enjoy some of the special features of this brand-new location, and we’re excited to provide our customers with the quality, convenience and service they know and love.”
The deli department includes a wide selection of artisan cheeses, olives and antipastos, while the meat department offers custom cuts and the company’s GreenWise private label organic chicken.
The seafood department provides fresh fish delivered throughout the week, alongside on-site sushi chefs who prepare hand-rolled selections daily.
Publix has prioritized the North Carolina market for growth in recent years, competing with both national chains and regional independent grocers.
The Durham opening follows several other recent store launches in the state as the company builds out its logistical network in the Mid-Atlantic.
Based in Lakeland, Florida, Publix Super Markets Inc. is the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the U.S. and operates more than 1,300 stores in seven states.
