Whole Foods Market will open a new 34,900‑square‑foot store July 22 in Salem, New Hampshire, marking the retailer’s first location in the city and its fifth in New Hampshire.

The Salem location features more than 800 local items from New England, sourced with the help of John Lawson, forager for local and emerging brands at Whole Foods Market. The store’s design references Salem’s historical architecture, scenic landscapes and community‑centric spaces.

Departments include certified organic and conventional produce; a curated grocery section; a full‑service meat counter with animal‑welfare certified selections and local bacon and sausage from North Country Smokehouse; a seafood counter with sustainable wild‑caught or responsibly-farmed offerings; a specialty cheese department with trained cheesemongers; a prepared foods department with salad bars, fresh pizza, sandwiches and sushi; a bakery with bread baked fresh daily; and a wellness and beauty department with body care, beauty and supplements.

On opening morning, the first 300 customers will receive a limited‑edition Salem tote bag and a secret saver coupon with savings up to $100 off. Coffee and pastries will also be available.

To celebrate the opening, Whole Foods will provide a food donation to Merrimack Valley Food Bank, which makes regular surplus food pickups from local stores and previously received a refrigerated van through the Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program. Monetary donations will also go to We Care Charity, Bread of Life Food Pantry and Sonshine Soup Kitchen.

All food at Whole Foods Market must meet the company’s quality standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high‑fructose corn syrup, and more than 300 flavors, colors, sweeteners and other ingredients. Beauty and body care products must meet standards that ban more than 240 commonly used ingredients, including phthalates, parabens and microbeads. Prime members receive additional discounts on select popular products each week and an additional 10 percent off hundreds of in‑store sale items. Grocery pickup will be available shortly after opening.
