Wegmans Food Markets has kicked off its companywide “Fill the Bus/Fill the Backpack” scan campaign to raise money for the company’s 53 Feeding America food bank partners. Customers can donate $2, $3, $5 or any amount at checkout, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to each store’s local food bank.
Addressing Summer Hunger
Families often turn to local food banks for help during the summer months when students lose access to meals at school. Donations made during this campaign help support local food banks’ summer feeding and backpack programs, ensuring school-aged children continue to have access to adequate food when free and reduced-price school lunches are unavailable.
“We’re so grateful to our employees for bringing awareness to this important campaign and to our customers who donate generously each year,” said Deana Percassi, Wegmans VP of community engagement and communication. “It truly makes a huge impact on reducing hunger for our neighbors in need.”
Wegmans’ Longstanding Commitment
Wegmans has a long history of supporting local food banks through daily food donations and annual scan campaigns. In 2025, Wegmans donated more than 36.8 million pounds of food, and its customers raised more than $4.7 million through its annual scan campaigns to help reduce hunger.
“When school is out, many kids lose access to nutritious meals and snacks,” said Elise Krikau, chief philanthropy officer at the Maryland Food Bank. “Every dollar raised through the Fill the Bus campaign means more children and families can eat, play and thrive during the summer months.”
