Wegmans Food Markets will serve as anchor tenant of the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the grocer and Washington, D.C.-based Roadside Development announced Oct. 29.
The deal gives the longtime South Hills retail destination a new everyday shopping draw and marks Wegmans’ second commitment in the Pittsburgh market.
Originally built as a Kaufmann’s department store and converted into an indoor shopping center in 1988, the approximately 168,000-square-foot, two-story Galleria will be reimagined by Roadside and Wegmans while maintaining its retail character, the companies said.
Renovations are expected to begin in 2028, with other retailers remaining open during the process. Wegmans purchased the Galleria Mall property.
‘Another exciting step’
The approximately 110,000-square-foot store will feature all of Wegmans’ signature departments, including produce, seafood, meat, bakery, deli, cheese and restaurant foods, along with an extensive wine and beer selection.
“As we make progress on our first store in the Pittsburgh market in Cranberry Township, we’re thrilled to take another exciting step in the region with the purchase of the Galleria Mall property in Mt. Lebanon,” said Dan Aken, Wegmans VP of real estate and store planning. “We recognize the significance this property holds for the community and see a tremendous opportunity to give it new life.”
“For decades, the Galleria has been part of the fabric of the South Hills community,” said Jeff Edelstein, president of Roadside Development. “Bringing Wegmans to the former Kaufmann’s site creates an opportunity to build on that history and give residents another reason to make the Galleria part of their everyday lives.”
“The addition of Wegmans is a significant milestone that will not only support the Galleria’s long-term success but also bring a highly anticipated amenity to our residents,” said Keith McGill, municipal manager of Mt. Lebanon.
Wegmans announced its Pittsburgh-region expansion in 2025 and broke ground on its approximately 115,000-square-foot Cranberry Township store in August; that store is anticipated to open in fall 2027.
Rochester, New York-based Wegmans operates 115 stores along the East Coast.
