Veterans across Wisconsin will be able to participate in an annual trip to the war memorials in Washington, D.C., thanks to a $65,000 donation to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight from the owners of Sendik’s Food Market and their trading partners.
The donation was raised through Sendik’s Annual Golf Outing, which was held Aug. 18 at the Club at Lac La Belle in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
“As always, we are proud to partner with Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to provide our local veterans with an unforgettable day in appreciation of their service,” said Ted Balistreri, co-owner of Sendik’s Food Markets.
“We would like to thank our valued trading partners who supported Sendik’s Annual Golf Outing to raise the funds necessary to support such a vital charity. We are continually inspired by the dedication of our communities to honor Wisconsin’s heroes.”
Veterans taking their Stars and Stripes Honor Flight on Sept. 7 include a World War II Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient who served in the Battle of the Bulge, a pair of Vietnam veteran brothers who were deployed to combat zones and a husband and wife pair of Vietnam-era veterans.
“We are so grateful to Sendik’s leadership, associates and trading partners for their generous support of our veterans,” said Karyn Roelke, president of Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
