The Alabama Grocers Association celebrated outstanding leaders in the state’s grocery industry at its annual Alabama Food Industry Finest Luncheon, held Oct. 21 in Birmingham. The event brought together retailers, wholesalers, vendors, elected officials and industry partners to recognize leadership and support the association’s legislative advocacy efforts.

The highlight was the presentation of AGA’s three industry awards: Jay Welborn of B&W Foods/Piggly Wiggly was honored as 2026 Retailer of the Year; Boyd West of AWG was named 2026 Wholesaler of the Year; and Chris Woods of Retail Data Systems Mid South was recognized asJay  2026 Vendor of the Year.

“Alabama’s grocery industry is built on the dedication of individuals who work every day to serve families and strengthen communities across our state,” said Ellie Taylor, president and CEO of the Alabama Grocers Association. “These three individuals represent the very best of our industry. We are proud to celebrate their accomplishments and thank them for the leadership and commitment they have demonstrated throughout their careers.”

The luncheon featured remarks from Katherine Robertson, candidate for Alabama attorney general, and Corey Hill, candidate for Alabama commissioner of agriculture and industries, ahead of the Nov. 3 general election. The event also supported SACK PAC, AGA’s political action fund, which supports advocacy on issues impacting Alabama grocers.

Lucy Greer Cherigotis, AGA VP for the Food Industry Finest, helped lead the program and recognized the event’s sponsors.

“The Food Industry Finest Luncheon is an opportunity to celebrate the people who make our industry special while continuing to strengthen the relationships that move our industry forward,” Taylor added.
