Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers has issued a certificate of commendation to the Balistreri family, which owns and operates Sendik’s Food Market, recognizing the grocer’s 100-year anniversary.
Mike Semmann, president and CEO of the Wisconsin Grocers Association, presented the certificate to co-owner Ted Balistreri on April 22 at the Sendik’s in Mequon, Wisconsin.
Family-owned grocer started in 1926
In his certificate of commendation, Evers recognized the humble beginnings of Sendik’s in 1926. The governor also noted the company’s efforts in strengthening Wisconsin’s economy and community well-being.
For decades, Sendik’s has supported several organizations, including Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, Feeding America of Southeastern Wisconsin and the MACC Fund.
“Our family is honored and thankful to Gov. Evers and our customers for this recognition,” Balistreri said. “Our success would not be possible without the support of the communities we serve and our dedicated associates.”
Association leader praises community focus
Semmann, who traveled from the WGA’s headquarters in Madison to make the presentation, praised Sendik’s commitment to communities.
“Sendik’s represents the definition of a family-owned, community-focused grocer,” Semmann said. “I am more than honored to present this governor’s proclamation to the Balistreri family.”
