Gonzalez family members cut the ribbon celebrating the Santa Ana remodel.

Northgate González Market celebrated the grand reopening of its remodeled Santa Ana, California, store at 1120 S. Bristol St. on Nov. 4, marking the 27,000-square-foot market’s first major remodel since it opened in 1999.

The refreshed store pairs everyday grocery shopping with freshly prepared foods, the grocer said.

Additions include a guacamole puesto (food stand) making guacamole to order; Pastelería Los González, featuring made-from-scratch pan dulce and cakes; bolillos baked fresh every 30 minutes in the bakery; and flour tortillas now made in-house alongside fresh corn tortillas and masa products.

The carnicería offers custom cuts, marinated meats and guidance from experienced carniceros, and the meal options ready to take home include Mexican stews (guisados), rotisserie chicken, rice and beans, carnitas by the pound and chicharrón.

The store employs 166 associates, many from the surrounding community.

“For more than 25 years, Santa Ana families have trusted us with their everyday meals and their biggest celebrations,” said Oscar González, co-president of Northgate González Market. “This remodel is our way of thanking our neighbors and bringing them more of the foods they love. We’re proud to be part of this community, and hope our guests love what we’ve done with the store.”

The morning celebration brought together the Gonzalez family owners, associates, community members and Santa Ana dignitaries for a priest’s blessing and ribbon-cutting, with a performance by Santa Ana High School’s Mariachi Los Santos.

$22,000 in holiday grocery vouchers for local schools

Alongside the reopening, Northgate donated more than $22,000 in holiday grocery vouchers to 10 Santa Ana schools and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County.

“We are incredibly grateful to Northgate González Market for their remarkable generosity and continued investment in our community,” said Gabriel Moreno, principal of Santa Ana High School. “These holiday vouchers will provide meaningful support during the holiday season.”

The grocer also added a book vending machine and free-book rewards program at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary.

A register campaign at Northgate Gonzalez stores yielded a check for nearly $130,000 to Olive Crest, which supports children and families.
