Grocers in two areas of the country are stepping up for neighbors hit by catastrophic flooding, with Natural Grocers collecting customer donations throughout the Four Corners states and Winn-Dixie directing $50,000 to relief efforts in Central Florida.

Natural Grocers: register donations in 71 stores, with match

Lakewood, Colorado-based Natural Grocers is collecting donations Nov. 6-22 at 71 stores in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah to benefit the American Red Cross and its efforts to assist communities affected by the recent catastrophic flooding in the Four Corners region, which has displaced families and damaged homes and infrastructure. Customers can give $1, $5 or $10 at the register, and the company will match donations up to $10,000.

The Four Corners is where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet — the only spot in the U.S. where four states share a single point.

“Our communities are strongest when we come together, especially during times of unexpected hardship,” said Raquel Isely, VP of marketing for Natural Grocers. “We hope this fundraiser will provide meaningful assistance to families and individuals facing the challenges left behind by the flooding. By matching customer donations up to $10,000, we’re proud to help extend the impact of our customers’ generosity and provide additional support for those affected.”

Winn-Dixie: $50,000 for Brevard County flooding

Winn-Dixie and the Winn-Dixie Gives Foundation are donating $50,000 to support Florida families impacted by recent severe flooding in Brevard County: $25,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster response and $25,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida for food assistance.

“As a hometown grocer with deep roots in Florida, Winn-Dixie is proud to support the organizations that help its neighbors through difficult times, from preparing for emergencies to providing critical assistance when disaster strikes,” the Jacksonville, Florida-based company said.

The donation builds on the Florida grocer’s longstanding Red Cross partnership. Earlier this year, the company contributed $150,000 to strengthen disaster relief and preparedness efforts statewide, funding that is now helping provide emergency shelter, essential supplies and recovery assistance to families affected by flooding and other emergencies.
