T&T Supermarket, Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain, opened its first San Francisco store Nov. 5 at City Center at 2675 Geary Blvd. Customers lined up starting at 4 a.m. and were wrapped around the parking lot by the time the 9 a.m. opening took place.

The 52,000-square-foot store is T&T’s second Bay Area location, following its California debut in San Jose in June, and its fourth in the United States. The store also introduces the first T&T Café in the U.S., serving made-to-order drinks inspired by Asian flavors, including an ube latte, black sesame latte and Arctic Dragonfruit Lemonade.

Inside the store

The store carries approximately 200 vegetable varieties and 17 mushroom varieties, including seasonal matsutake and chanterelles, alongside locally sourced Asian greens. The in-house T&T Kitchen serves more than 20 dishes at a self-serve hot food bar, plus the chain’s Papa Chicken, made-to-order Taiwanese sticky rice rolls and a Baby Bear Bao launching exclusively at the San Francisco store.

The bakery features San Francisco-inspired items, including a City Hall Mousse Cake and the Bolo Butter Bun in its U.S. debut. Other departments span a premium Japanese matcha collection from brands including Ippodo Tea, more than 300 T&T private-label products, hot pot ingredients and Korean and Japanese beauty brands.

For Thanksgiving, T&T is introducing a Chinese-style stuffed turkey ($99) filled with savory sticky rice and served with gravy and cranberry sauce, with preorders beginning Nov. 10. The store’s online shopping service launches Dec. 4 with free express delivery and in-store pickup, and the first 300 customers daily through Nov. 8 receive grand opening gifts.

California expansion accelerates

The San Francisco store is one piece of a fast-moving California buildout. T&T plans its largest state location, a 72,600-square-foot store in a former Macy’s space at NewPark Mall in Newark, expected to open in winter 2027 with about 400 jobs, according to local reporting. Additional Bay Area stores are planned for Millbrae, with a Southern California expansion underway in Chino Hills and Irvine.

Founded in Vancouver in 1993 and headquartered in Richmond, British Columbia, T&T operates more than 40 stores in Canada and the United States, including locations in Bellevue and Lynnwood, Washington, and is led by second-generation CEO Tina Lee.
