Widdis Food Market has opened in Staten Island’s Rossville community, bringing a full-service grocery store to the neighborhood. The approximately 13,000-square-foot supermarket is supported by Allegiance Retail Services.

According to ARS, Shady Widdi, president of Widdis Food Market, selected Rossville because it is an established, family-oriented community. It also presented an opportunity to “reimagine” an existing neighborhood supermarket.

Located at 1006 Rossville Ave., the new store is said to reflect the same approach Widdi brought to Foodtown of Noll Street in Brooklyn – significant investment in design, departments and product selection. The store opened Oct. 30.

“Every supermarket I build, I try to take what we learned from the last one and make the next one even better,” Widdi said. “With Widdis Food Market, we are bringing that philosophy to Rossville. We are taking an established neighborhood supermarket and transforming it into a modern, high-end shopping experience while keeping the personal service and community connection that a neighborhood market should have.”

Specialty departments in a neighborhood footprint

The store offers fresh mozzarella made in-store, an extensive produce department, natural and organic products, premium meats with a full-service butcher shop, fresh seafood, a full-service deli, specialty and imported cheeses with a cheesemonger, a full-service bakery, café, juice bar, sushi, prepared foods and hot food, olive and soup bars, alongside traditional grocery, dairy and frozen selections and online shopping.

Specially priced Best Yet private-label products anchor the value offering, with the goal of pairing the selection and quality of a high-end specialty market with the accessibility of a neighborhood supermarket.

Raising the bar

“Independent grocers like the Widdi family are continually raising the bar for what neighborhood supermarkets can offer their customers,” said Samer Rahman, president and COO of Allegiance Retail Services. “We are proud to support Shady Widdi and his family and their commitment to investing in the communities they serve. His vision and dedication demonstrate how independent grocers can transform neighborhood shopping while remaining deeply connected to the people and families who call these communities home.”

Iselin, New Jersey-based Allegiance Retail Services supports independent supermarkets, including the Foodtown, Freshtown, D’Agostino, Gristedes, Pathmark, LaBella Marketplace and Brooklyn Harvest banners, with marketing, advertising, technology and merchandising support.
