Amazon is bringing restaurant delivery inside its own storefront, partnering with Uber Eats to offer U.S. Prime members a $0 delivery fee on restaurant orders of $25 or more placed directly on Amazon.com and in the Amazon Shopping app.

Prime members can start ordering immediately with no new app, Uber account or credentials required, using existing Amazon logins and payment methods. The benefit covers hundreds of thousands of restaurants in nearly 10,000 cities and towns, reaching major metros, suburbs and rural communities coast to coast. It also extends to Amazon’s half-price Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access memberships.

“Whether it’s game night, family night or date night, Prime’s new Uber Eats membership benefit makes getting dinner delivered even easier,” said Jamil Ghani, worldwide VP of Amazon Prime. “This is what Prime is all about: unlimited free, fast delivery on a wide selection of products, big savings, fantastic entertainment and now even more value on restaurant delivery with Uber Eats, all in a single membership.”

Offers aimed at habit-building

Alongside the waived delivery fees, Prime-exclusive offers available only on Amazon could save members more than $175 per year, according to the companies, which is more than the cost of an annual Prime membership. An introductory offer gives $20 off each of the first two Uber Eats orders of $25 or more within 14 days, and Prime Visa cardmembers earn 5 percent back on Uber Eats orders through Dec. 5.

“Together with Amazon, we built an experience for Prime members designed to make restaurant delivery feel as natural, convenient, and affordable as ordering anything else on Uber Eats,” said Andrew Macdonald, president and COO of Uber. “We’re excited to connect our restaurant community with new Prime fans, while giving Prime members a seamless way to enjoy great food from restaurants through Uber Eats.”

The grocery connection

Amazon is positioning the benefit as part of a single meal ecosystem: the release points members toward pairing Uber Eats entrees with Prime’s free same-day delivery on perishable grocery orders over $25 from Amazon Grocery. The company said Prime members last year each saved an average of more than $650 on delivery fees and fuel, 64 shopping trips and 55 hours of time.
