Albertsons Companies, American Express and payments platform Imprint have launched the Albertsons forU American Express Card, a no-annual-fee credit card that lets customers earn rewards on groceries at more than 2,200 Albertsons Cos. stores as well as on gas, dining, utilities and other everyday purchases.
The launch makes Albertsons the second major grocer to roll out a co-branded rewards card this fall, following Kroger’s recent Mastercard introduction.
Each Albertsons banner has its own card design, including Albertsons, Safeway, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Acme, Shaw’s, Star Market, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Haggen, United Supermarkets and Pavilions. The cards can be used anywhere American Express is accepted.
“The new Albertsons forU American Express Card is designed to give customers even more value from their everyday purchases,” said Emily Turner, chief marketing officer for Albertsons Cos. “Whether they are buying groceries, filling up at the pump, dining out or filling a prescription, customers can earn meaningful rewards with ease.”
Benefits stronger for online, app purchases
The Albertsons forU card offers customers:
- 5 percent back on online and app purchases from Albertsons Cos. stores, including pickup and delivery;
- 3 percent back on in-store and pharmacy transactions, including prescriptions, immunizations and eligible over-the-counter health products;
- 3 percent back on gas, dining, streaming services and utilities, and 1 percent back on other eligible purchases;
- A $50 statement credit after spending $1,000 outside Albertsons Cos. stores within the first 90 days; and
- American Express network benefits, including Amex Offers and ticket presales for select events.
Rewards are automatically applied as a statement credit each billing cycle. Customers can apply and manage rewards at albertsons.com or in the Albertsons app.
“Together with Albertsons Cos. and Imprint, we’re delivering meaningful value by rewarding cardholders for purchases in the grocery aisle and beyond,” said Will Stredwick, EVP of global network partnerships for North America at American Express.
The card is powered by the American Express network and Imprint, a payments, loyalty and intelligence platform with more than 2 million members nationwide, and is issued by First Electronic Bank.
Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons operates 2,240 retail stores in 35 states and the District of Columbia.
