The store, which opened Oct. 16, is the Foodtown banner’s third new store since summer, following a Brooklyn store with an international focus in July and an Ocean Hill, Brooklyn, supermarket earlier this month.

The approximately 11,000-square-foot Foodtown of Tacony, located in the northeast Philadelphia neighborhood, offers fresh produce, full-service meat and seafood counters, organic and natural products and a large international foods aisle reflecting the area’s diversity. The store also offers Club Card and Loyalty Rewards programs and carries the Best Yet private label brand.

The store is owned and operated by independent grocer Mike Said.

“We’re proud of Foodtown’s continued expansion in the Philadelphia market and helping to bring greater access to fresh, quality and affordable food to the local neighborhoods,” said Samer Rahman, president and COO of Allegiance Retail Services. “Our independent grocers are deeply committed to the communities they serve, and this opening is another great example of that commitment in action.”

Iselin, New Jersey-based Allegiance supports independent supermarket operators through a cooperative structure, providing merchandising, marketing, advertising, technology and operations services to strengthen members’ competitiveness.
