The Alabama Grocers Education Foundation raised more than $50,000 at its annual Clay Shoot Tournament, held Oct. 8 at Selwood Farm in Alpine, Alabama. The event brought together retailers, wholesalers, vendors and industry partners from throughout the state for a day of competition and fellowship benefiting the foundation’s scholarship program.
Since its founding in 1992, AGEF has awarded more than $1.6 million in scholarships to employees, and children of employees, of Alabama Grocers Association member companies. In 2026 alone, the foundation awarded 48 scholarships totaling $48,250.
“Every year, our grocery industry family comes together to make a difference in the lives of deserving students,” said Ellie Taylor, president and CEO of the Alabama Grocers Association. “Raising more than $50,000 is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our members. We are grateful for their continued support of the Foundation and its mission to enrich education and career development in the grocery industry.”
This year’s tournament featured several additions, including the Helice Game, Smoking Target Game and Cotton Drop Game, with prize drawings held during the awards ceremony. The day concluded with a reception, lunch catered by United Distributors of Alabama and an awards ceremony.
Coca-Cola Bottling Company United served as presenting sponsor. Other sponsors included Bunzl Distribution (two station and goody bag), Walmart (ammo), BTC Wholesale Distributors, Higginbotham Insurance and Publix Super Markets (breakfast), Greer’s and United Distributors of Alabama (lunch) and Buffalo Rock/Pepsi (sampling station), along with station sponsors and event contributors.
Next year’s Clay Shoot Tournament is set for Oct. 7, 2027, at Selwood Farm.
