Walmart is expanding its restaurant delivery business through a collaboration with Inspire Brands that will let customers order Dunkin’ beverages and meals alongside their Walmart orders through the Walmart app or Walmart.com.

Dunkin’ will launch first through its 150 in-store tenant locations, with plans to expand to the majority of its 10,000 locations outside Walmart stores nationwide. The move builds on the Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer’s entry into restaurant delivery earlier this summer and marks its first push beyond restaurants located inside its own stores.

The expansion signals Walmart’s ambitions in a delivery category dominated by DoorDash and Uber Eats, and it leans on infrastructure grocers will recognize: the retailer says its store footprint sits within 10 miles of approximately 90 percent of the U.S. population, and it will leverage its established last-mile delivery network to scale the service.

“The future of retail is about meeting customers wherever they are and simplifying their lives,” said Greg Cathey, senior VP of e-commerce fulfillment transformation at Walmart. “Walmart is built to support real life, and together with Dunkin’, we’re enabling customers to order their beverages, donut or sandwich alongside their paper towels, milk and household essentials, all through a delivery experience they already know and love.”

How it works

Eligible customers will automatically see Dunkin’ as an option in the Restaurants tab on the Walmart app based on their delivery address. They can access the menu, customize beverage and food selections and check out using the same experience they use for everyday shopping.

“Our goal is simple: make it even easier for guests to enjoy Dunkin’ whenever and wherever they want it,” said Scott Murphy, Dunkin’ brand president and Inspire chief brand officer. “By combining the strength of Walmart’s delivery platform with the appeal of our Dunkin’ menu, we can reach more guests in more moments, creating an experience that fits naturally into everyday life.”

The collaboration deepens an existing relationship between the two companies, which opened their 150th in-store Dunkin’ location in June in Oakwood, Georgia.

Walmart operates more than 10,900 stores and numerous e-commerce websites in 19 countries, serving approximately 280 million customers and members each week. Dunkin’, founded in 1950 and part of the Inspire Brands portfolio, operates more than 14,200 restaurants in nearly 40 global markets.
