Big Y has opened its newest supermarket at 357 Broadway in Saugus, Massachusetts – the second of two new locations to debut in the company’s home state this year. The Springfield, Massachusetts-based retailer opened its first eastern Massachusetts store of 2026 in Pembroke earlier this year.
The new Saugus store created 100 part-time and full-time jobs, with hiring ongoing through Big Y’s careers page. The opening comes as the family-owned chain celebrates its 90th anniversary.
“As Big Y celebrates its 90th anniversary, the opening of our Saugus store represents both a proud milestone and an exciting step forward,” said Michael D’Amour, president and CEO, in a Sept. 3 news release. “While we are honoring a legacy that began in 1936, we remain focused on the future, investing in communities, creating jobs and expanding access to fresh, local, high-quality food. Our knowledgeable team looks forward to earning the trust of Saugus shoppers and building lasting relationships throughout the community.”
Fresh departments, prepared foods
The store’s bakery offers custom cakes, while the full-service butcher shop features prepared cuts of meat. The seafood department carries sustainably sourced options delivered six days a week.
The kitchen and deli serve ready-to-eat options, including Big Y Quick, Easy meal solutions; hand-tossed pizza by the slice or whole pie; fish and chips; handcrafted sushi; and made-to-order subs and paninis. The deli also stocks Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, sliced to order at the counter or packaged for grab-and-go shopping.
Local partnerships
The store carries products from local suppliers throughout its departments, including artisan breads and linzer cookies from Jessica’s Brick Oven; hummus and dips from Cedar’s Mediterranean Foods; fresh mozzarella cups from Mozzarella House; and Take & Bake pizzas from Prince Pizzeria.
The meat and seafood department offers all-natural beef shaved steak products from Demakes Brothers and seafood items from Yankee Trader Seafood. In produce and floral, shoppers will find lettuce from Little Leaf Farms; pumpkins, gourds and hard squash from Wilson Farm; and seasonal flowers from Cavicchio Greenhouses.
Other local items include Conza breadcrumbs, Boston Honey Company products, Di Nonna’s sauces and marinades, Wrap City Potato Chips and Mi Niña Tortilla Chips.
Grand opening festivities upcoming
Grand opening events begin Sept. 10 with giveaways, special offers and sample tastings. myBigY members will earn 500 rewards points when spending $10 in a single transaction at the Saugus store through Nov. 4. Members who shop between Aug. 27 and Nov. 4 will be entered into a grand opening giveaway for a chance to win one of three prizes: 20,000 points ($200 in groceries), 10,000 points ($100 in groceries) or 5,000 points ($50 in groceries).
