Buche Foods and Buche’s Gus Stop have been selected to participate in Double Up Food Bucks, becoming the first – and currently only – stores in South Dakota to offer the program. Under the program, SNAP customers get a dollar-for-dollar match when buying eligible fresh fruits and vegetables.
With Buche offering Double Up, its SNAP customers in rural and tribal communities will be able to bring more fresh food home. The program is available at all Buche Foods locations — Gregory, Mobridge, Mission, Oacoma, Pine Ridge and Wagner — along with the Buche’s Gus Stop locations in Wanblee and Lower Brule.

Food access-driven
The selection extends a long record of food-access initiatives for the grocer, whose stores all sit on or near tribal reservations. Buche Foods was the first independent grocer in South Dakota to accept SNAP payments online. It also was among 100 U.S. stores selected for the Add Milk healthy food incentive — extending it beyond SNAP participants at its own cost — and has launched grocery lockers to serve rural communities without stores.
