Aldi new stores

Aldi released its 2026 Price Leadership Report, which the discount grocer said shows it offers the lowest prices of any national grocer and collectively saves shoppers $10.2 billion annually.

The Aug. 28 report combines a commissioned consumer perception survey of 1,217 Aldi shoppers; a competitive pricing analysis across five U.S. metro regions; and an economic impact analysis by Ernst & Young’s Quantitative Economics and Statistics Group.

Key findings

The consumer survey was fielded March 4-12 among adults living within five miles of an Aldi store who perform at least half of their household’s grocery shopping and shop at Aldi. Among the findings:

  • Shoppers can save up to 22 percent by choosing Aldi private label products over competitor private label products, according to the pricing analysis, which compared a 70-item basket of top-selling items in the Miami, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Houston markets.
  • Collectively, Aldi saves shoppers $10.2 billion annually, with savings figures reflecting a family of four and calculated against Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Expenditure Survey data.
  • Among surveyed Aldi shoppers, 92 percent would recommend the grocer for its value; 92 percent say it offers competitively low prices; and 91 percent say it helps them stay on budget.
  • Surveyed shoppers said Aldi has the best quality store brands compared to competitors and ranked the grocer first in offering the most unique and exciting products.

The annual savings figure marks an increase from the $8.3 billion Aldi reported in its inaugural Price Leadership Report, released in January 2025. The grocer has leaned on the value message throughout the year, including a summer price reduction on more than 400 products and continued expansion that has pushed its footprint past 2,400 U.S. stores, with Maine becoming its 40th state earlier this year.
