Walmart is celebrating National Chicken Month by giving one of its most beloved deli items a fashionable twist: a limited-edition rotisserie Chicken Purse, priced at $5.97 to match the everyday price of the grocer’s rotisserie chicken.

Playing into the oversized clutch trend for fall, the purse launches Sept. 1 in two “flavors” – Traditional and Lemon Pepper. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer said roughly one in every 12 Walmart customers purchases at least one rotisserie chicken each year, and the item has drawn more than 15,000 social media mentions in the last year.

“We wanted to celebrate this fandom by giving the rotisserie chicken its own moment,” said Kim Tunick, group director of brand experiences and partnerships at Walmart. “The Chicken Purse turns that love into something customers can carry with them.”

But wait, there’s more

The Traditional Rotisserie Chicken bag charm

The retailer also is introducing a collection of miniature bag charms inspired by popular rotisserie chicken pairings: Traditional and Lemon Pepper Rotisserie Chicken purse charms at $5.97 each, along with Great Value Louisiana Hot Sauce and Great Value Lemon Pepper Seasoning charms at $4 each.

The collection will be available beginning at 8 a.m. ET on Sept. 1 at SparkShop.com and in person at the Spark Shop inside the Walmart Welcome Center in Bentonville, while supplies last.

The stunt underscores how the humble deli rotisserie chicken has become a traffic-driving icon for grocers, from Costco’s famously price-frozen $4.99 bird to the growing deli-prepared chicken category, and how retailers increasingly turn fan-favorite items into brand merchandise moments.

Walmart operates more than 10,900 stores and numerous ecommerce websites in 19 countries, serving approximately 280 million customers weekly, with fiscal year 2026 revenue of $713 billion.
