Brookshire Grocery Co. has appointed Jerry LeClair as CEO, effective immediately. LeClair had served as interim CEO since February, when longtime Chairman and CEO Brad Brookshire announced his retirement after 49 years with the Tyler, Texas-based grocer.
LeClair joined BGC in 2019 as EVP and chief merchant officer and was promoted to COO in 2025. As interim CEO, he continued to oversee the company’s retail operations, category management, marketing, fuel, pharmacy, logistics and facility services teams.
“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as CEO of Brookshire Grocery Company,” LeClair said. “BGC has a remarkable legacy built by generations of leaders and employee-partners who have remained committed to serving others with excellence. I look forward to working alongside our talented team as we continue caring for our customers, supporting our communities and building a strong future for our Company.”
A grocery career built from the ground up
LeClair brings more than 40 years of grocery industry experience to the role. He began his career with Albertsons as a courtesy clerk and advanced to district manager before serving in executive leadership positions with Giant Eagle and Harris Teeter. He is a graduate of Wingate University in North Carolina.
The company said LeClair’s leadership is rooted in BGC’s longstanding commitment to putting people first while maintaining operational excellence, with a continued focus on delivering value to customers, creating opportunities for employee-partners and serving its communities.
He succeeds Brad Brookshire, the grandson of company founder W.T. Brookshire, who served 20 years as chairman of the board and 10 as CEO. During Brookshire’s tenure, the company expanded its store count, established the Spring Market banner and acquired Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Reasor’s.
BGC is a regional family-owned grocery business operating more than 215 stores across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma, with three distribution centers. The company employs more than 16,000 people and has been recognized as a Great Place to Work since 2020. BGC has been in operation since 1928.
