Meijer is planning to open two stores on Sept. 30: a 159,000-square-foot supercenter in Plymouth Township, Michigan, and a 75,000-square-foot Meijer Grocery in Fishers, Indiana, the Grand Rapids-based retailer said Aug. 10.
Plymouth Township, at 48025 5 Mile Rd., will be Meijer’s 130th store in Michigan. Fishers, at 15700 Southeastern Pkwy., is the retailer’s 45th in Indiana and its second Meijer Grocery in the state.
The pairing is characteristic of how Meijer has been growing. In May the retailer opened supercenters in Brownsburg, Indiana, and Bainbridge Township, Ohio, alongside a 47,000-square-foot grocery store in Rochester Hills, Michigan, on the same day.
Plymouth Township
The supercenter will carry the full assortment: bakery, meat, seafood and deli, floral, garden center, apparel and home goods, plus a full-service pharmacy with drive-through, health and beauty care, pet, electronics, toys and sporting goods.

The grocer has supported area organizations such as the Detroit Zoo, Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village as well as the Detroit Grand Prix, Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings.
The store follows the Aug. 19 opening of a Meijer Grocery in Livonia, the fourth in Michigan. Meijer employs more than 40,000 in the state.
Fishers
The grocery format condenses a weekly shopping trip into a smaller footprint, with full-service bakery, meat, seafood and deli departments, floral and greeting cards, pharmacy, health and beauty care and pet supplies.

Meijer entered Indiana in 1994 and employs more than 13,000 in the state, including at distribution and manufacturing operations in Middlebury.
The grocer has given back to Indiana communities over the years, including support of the Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana and sports teams such as the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana University Athletics, Notre Dame Athletics and Purdue University Athletics.
Common elements
Both locations will have adjacent Meijer Express fuel stations opening Sept. 2, roughly four weeks ahead of the stores. Both will carry the mPerks loyalty program, Shop & Scan, home delivery and pickup, and the retailer’s Frederik’s by Meijer premium line and True Goodness better-for-you brand.
Hourly, part-time and full-time positions remain open at both stores.
Meijer operates more than 500 supercenters, grocery stores, neighborhood markets and express locations in the Midwest with more than 70,000 team members. The privately held, family-operated company donates at least 6 percent of its profit annually to community causes.
