Haribo of America has named Jon Hughes president and CEO as the gummi manufacturer launches its first U.S. retail stores and invests in product innovation and consumer engagement.
Hughes most recently served as managing director for Haribo U.K. and Ireland, where he led the business for roughly a decade before relocating to the U.S. earlier this year. He has worked with Haribo for 10 years and previously held roles at Red Bull and Toast Ale.
“Haribo has an extraordinary legacy, unmatched brand love and tremendous opportunity ahead,” Hughes said. “As we enter this next chapter of growth, we’re investing in new ways for fans to experience the Happy World of Haribo, from innovative new treats to immersive retail destinations that bring the brand to life and create memorable experiences.”

First U.S. retail stores
Haribo celebrated the grand opening of its first U.S. retail store Aug. 7 at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, New York. A second location at Wrentham Village Premium Outlets in Massachusetts was expected to open in early August, according to the company.
The stores bring to the U.S. a retail concept the company has already deployed across Europe. Both feature customizable Pick-and-Mix candy walls, seasonal and limited-time treats, exclusive merchandise and in-store brand experiences. New York State Rep. Christopher Eachus joined Hughes and Seth Klugherz, VP of marketing for Haribo of America, at the Woodbury Common opening.
The retail push reflects a broader strategy to deepen consumer engagement and strengthen brand visibility beyond traditional grocery and mass channels.
Established in 1920 and best known as the creator of the original gummi bear, Haribo is a family-owned business employing nearly 8,500 associates across 15 production sites in 11 countries. Its global headquarters is in Grafschaft, Germany, with U.S. operations based in Rosemont, Illinois.
