Customers and associates at Kroger‘s Atlanta Division raised more than $128,000 through the division’s “Kick Hunger to the Sidelines” campaign. The amount was more than two and a half times its $50,000 goal.
The campaign ran June 1-July 31, with customers rounding up purchases at checkout. All proceeds go to hunger-relief work for children across the division, which covers Georgia, eastern Alabama and South Carolina.
“Kroger customers and associates once again demonstrated the tremendous impact we can make when we work together,” said Victoria Boone, manager of communications and public affairs for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “Our customers generously rounded up their purchases, and our associates enthusiastically championed the campaign in stores.”
Where the money goes
Funds will be split equally among eight nonprofit partners, giving each roughly $16,000:
- MUST Ministries, serving metro Atlanta including Marietta and Canton;
- Caring For Others, serving metro Atlanta including Atlanta, East Point and Union City;
- Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, serving 21 counties;
- Golden Harvest Food Bank, serving 24 counties in Georgia and South Carolina;
- Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, serving 24 Georgia counties;
- Food Bank of East Alabama, serving seven Alabama counties;
- Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, serving 15 Georgia counties; and
- Harvest Hope Food Bank, serving 20 South Carolina counties.
“Whether a customer donated a few cents or several dollars, every contribution helped us surpass our goal,” Boone said. “We are deeply grateful to our customers and associates for rallying behind this effort to ensure children have access to the food and resources they need to learn, grow and thrive.”
The campaign supports Kroger’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste plan. The Atlanta Division employs more than 25,000 associates.
