Giant Food celebrated the grand reopening of its remodeled store at 6340-50 York Road in Baltimore on July 19, starting with a community event starting at 9 a.m.
The store showcases an expanded seafood department, a broader selection of international foods, a Ledo Pizza corner shop, a full-service sushi bar with an in-store chef and additional prepared food offerings, the Landover, Maryland-based grocer said.
“This store is very unique, serving as a central hub for several neighborhoods across the city and Baltimore County while also creating the iconic Preakness Stakes floral blanket for more than 25 years,” said Kimberly Carr, store manager of Giant Food No. 108. “We look forward to welcoming the community into our beautiful, enhanced Giant Food.”
As part of the reopening, Giant presented a $1,000 donation to St. James African Union Methodist Protestant Church, a local nonprofit. The store also will host a school supply drive, inviting customers to donate items benefiting the church and youth in the Baltimore community.
Customers who attended the reopening were able to sample Giant’s private brand products and items from partners including Boar’s Head. They also received a free reusable bag at checkout.
Giant’s first store opened in Washington, D.C., in 1936. The company operates 163 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, including 153 full-service pharmacies, and employs approximately 20,000 associates.
Great. And the new Trader Joe’s is opening, literally across the street.
