Save Mart CARES Foundation

The Save Mart Companies’ CARES Foundation raised more than $420,000 at its 25th Annual Golf Fundraiser on June 26 at Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa, California.

The event, which featured 73 foursomes, surpassed last year’s total of $379,000 and is the company’s largest annual fundraiser.

“The golf tournament has grown into a powerful tradition of giving back,” said Joan Dobias-Davis, chairperson of the CARES Foundation and SVP and CHRO for The Save Mart Companies. “Together with our partners, we have spent more than 20 years supporting organizations that address local needs and create stronger, healthier communities.”

The foundation also announced the opening of applications for its Feeding Forward grant program, a funding opportunity supporting nonprofits engaged in retail food recovery efforts. Grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 will support hardware and software investments that help nonprofits operate more efficiently, improve data collection and reporting, expand service capacity and strengthen edible food recovery efforts.

Applications are open through Aug. 10. Eligible applicants must provide services within the operating area of The Save Mart Companies, including communities served by Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx stores throughout California and Nevada.

Since its establishment in 2000, the CARES Foundation has invested more than $6.3 million to regional organizations focused on improving access to healthy food, education, the arts and essential resources.
