Lee’s Marketplace hosted the kickoff event for America’s Potluck on June 4 at its Foxborough location, bringing together state leaders, community voices and local influencers to celebrate connection and shared meals.

The evening set the stage for the nationwide initiative taking place July 5, which encourages people across the country to gather with neighbors, family and friends to share a meal and strengthen community ties in celebration of America250.
The event featured musical performances, including a rendition of “America the Beautiful” by Miss Utah and a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by a local children’s choir. Food was provided by Lee’s Marketplace, with catering from Executive Chef John Spencer featuring items from the deli, bakery and produce departments.
First Lady Abby Cox addressed attendees, emphasizing the role that shared meals play in fostering belonging and connection. She was joined by Jonathan Badger, CEO of Lee’s Marketplace, who hosted the event.
“As independent grocers, we are honored to support this effort, helping provide the ingredients, the meals and the inspiration that make gatherings like this possible – which is the core of why we do what we do,” Badger said.
“At Lee’s Marketplace, as your local and independent grocer, we are more than a grocery store; we are part of the fabric of this community. Every day, we serve neighbors, families and friends, and we see firsthand how food connects people. Whether it’s a weeknight dinner, a holiday meal or a backyard gathering, grocery stores play a small but meaningful role in bringing those moments to life.”
Local influencers and community voices attended to help spread awareness and excitement about America’s Potluck, using their platforms to encourage participation. Organizers noted that cities and towns across the country are already stepping up to host local potlucks and encourage residents to take part in celebrating Utah’s 250th birthday on July 5.
A big thank you was extended to the Lee’s Marketplace team, including Megan Lareaux, John Spencer, Jake Wittwer, Jonathan Badger and Shari Badger, as well as AFS team members Ryan Barnes, Todd Humphrey, Andrew Wischerath, Josh Christensen and Sarah Pettit for their assistance with the kickoff event.
