Hy-Vee has agreed to sell 21 standalone Fast & Fresh convenience store locations to Bosselman Pump & Pantry, a Nebraska-based fourth-generation fuel and convenience retailer, the companies announced June 5. The deal is expected to close in July, after which the locations will be rebranded under the Pump & Pantry banner.

For Hy-Vee, the divestiture is a strategic move. The Iowa-based grocery chain will retain 168 convenience stores – those adjacent to its flagship supermarkets – while redirecting investment toward its core grocery business and a wave of store openings in 2027 and beyond.

Focus on the core

No Fast & Fresh locations other than these 21 standalone stores are affected by the sale, according to the grocer.

Lucas Glasgow, SVP of Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh, said he is confident the locations will continue to deliver quality and value to customers under their new ownership.

“The focus of the Pump & Pantry brand, as well as Bosselman’s brand, is very much aligned with Hy-Vee,” he said.

Charlie Bosselman, CEO of Bosselman Pump & Pantry, added, “We’re energized to aggressively grow our footprint across the Midwest and to welcome new team members and new customers to the Pump & Pantry family.”

For Pump & Pantry, the acquisition nearly doubles its store count, vaulting the company from 48 Nebraska locations to 69 in Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota.

The 21 sites being acquired from include five in-store Starbucks and seven Smokey Row coffee shops, a branded café partnership Charlie Bosselman called “a strong fit” for the company’s hometown experience.

What changes, what doesn’t

All 21 sites will transition to the Pump & Pantry brand and will continue to honor Hy-Vee Fuel Saver redemptions. Pump & Pantry also plans to extend Fuel Saver acceptance to all 69 of its locations in the months ahead.

Customers at the acquired locations can join Pump & Pantry’s Pumped Up Rewards loyalty program, accessible through the company’s mobile app, which includes exclusive discounts, scratch-and-win games, online ordering and real-time fuel pricing.

Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh employees at the 21 standalone locations will have the opportunity to transition to employment with Pump & Pantry.

Hiring fairs will be held at select locations. Job openings are posted at bosselman.com.
